5 Reasons Why You Need A Vision Board To Reach Your Goals

Have you set goals for your finances yet? If not, how do you know when you’re growing or making progress? When was the last time you allowed yourself to daydream about the life you want? What is your WHY? What is your reason for getting out of bed every morning? What is your reason why you’re working long hours and doing all of this overtime?

Creating a vision board has become one of the most popular activities. It usually gets a lot of attention and traction around New Years when people think about the past year and the New Year’s resolutions they want to keep. A vision board is simply one tool that helps you visualize your dreams and your goals.

To some people it sounds silly because they don’t know how creating a vision board will help you reach your goals. So I’m going to give you 5 reasons how it helps. Let’s go…

1. Vision boards make you focus on what’s important to you.

Thinking about what you want in life forces you to prioritize what’s important to you. Do you want to buy your first house or your first car? Do you want to be able to take your family your first dream vacation? Putting a picture of your dream vacation in front of you everyday will inspire you to work harder towards reaching that goal. If you want to buy a new house, you have the power to make that happen and depending on how bad you want it you can make it happen and you’ll make better decisions based on that desire.

2. Visualization stimulates the creative side of your brain.

Placing your vision board somewhere you’ll see it frequently like your desk, in your bathroom, on computer, or even on your cellphone’s background screen serves as a daily reminder of what you want to achieve. Some people even believe keeping it open by your nightstand helps stimulate your subconscious before you go to bed, which makes you motivated when you wake up. Since your creativity will be going crazy and giving you all type of great ideas at all times of the day, I suggest keeping a notebook on your nightstand to jot down any ideas that come to mind. You can also use the notepad on your phone if you’re not in bed. I tend to get ideas right before bed, right when I wake up, and sometimes randomly throughout the day.

    3. Focusing on goals makes you recognize new resources or opportunities.

Visualizing yourself in your dream car (or whatever your primary goal is) will motivate you to work towards that goal but you’ll also notice new opportunities or resources which can lead you to reaching your goal. Remember the term “Out of sigh, out of mind”? Well it works the opposite way as well. When your goals are at the forefront of your mind, you tend to work harder and can see new opportunities that you weren’t able to see when you’re goes weren’t at the forefront. These resources may have always been present but now that you’re focused on your goal, you will see them in a new light: as a way to help you reach that intended goal.

    4. Break out of your comfort zone by setting big, scary goals.

Are you stuck in a rut because you’re afraid to break out of your comfort zone? Acknowledging big goals – as scary and outrageous as they may be – will help you step out and take on new challenges, all in the name of reaching that scary goal. If your goal is to retire by age 35, then you’ll start to see more opportunities for cutting smaller things out of your budget and saving more money even if it’s $5. These smaller accomplishments will give you lots of practice and build you up to take on the bigger challenges so you can pay down all your debt, cut out unnecessary spending, and invest instead of only saving your money.

    5. Seeing a big goal forces you out of the dreaming and springs you into action.

Nothing happens without some action on your part. Vision boards are not magic tricks; they are instead a tool that springs us into action because we finally know what we want out of life. Visualize your ideal life then approach each day with action steps which will lead you toward that ideal life.

Aside from these reasons, creating vision boards can be very relaxing and a fun family activity or add some wine, some good music, and do it with your girlfriends.

Okay, now grab some glue and some old magazines and start visualizing your best life!
